Meet the Rookie: Cindy Wang

45052693_1594710967341983_839345886491312128_n.jpgCindy is a first year environmental engineer from Virginia, and without a doubt the weirdest member of this year’s rookie class! She can be seen at a tournament watching the frisbee ALL THE WAY into her hands to catch it (lol), befriending the other team to learn their secrets, or tripping over nothing.  When asked who she would want to be stranded on a desert island with she said she’d “take Tara. She’s athletic and apparently ranked first in the fight bracket, so she’d be able to help collect food on trees or kill wildlife. She’s also super quiet, so I’d have a lot of time to crack her and find out all her secrets.  Best of all, she seems to be nice and quite trusting, so if it ever came to extreme individual survival I would be able to kill her off in her sleep for food without worrying about her being suspicious or awake”- direct quote from Cindy. Clearly she’s though about this before haha.  Besides creeping her teammates out with comments like this, in her free time you’ll find her air drumming and Persian snapping (whatever that is).  Welcome to the team Cindy!

Meet the Rookie: Grace Erlinger

Grace  ( also known as ‘quizlet queen’ ) is a first year CHBE from Peachtree City, and has joined Wreck this year because, in her words we “are so cool :) ” (It’s a proven fact).  Grace is a pop of sunshine on a cloudy day, and when not zooming around the field at the speed of light, she loves to eat pizza (even though she hates cheese) and watch movies.  While her self proclaimed signature move is ‘flailing’, this ‘fierce bad bitch’ (her words, not mine) would choose to have brass knuckles as a weapon in the zombie apocalypse. Catch her at CCC this weekend getting that disc, cheering Wreck on to victory, and or falling asleep on the sidelines. Welcome to Wreck Grace!

Meet the Rookie 2018

Meet the Rookie 2018

Hello, it’s me, Hannah Paterson, here to fulfill your desire to know everything about the best frisbee team ever-Wreck! We are off and running this season, and on our way to our first tournament this weekend: CCC! Catch both A and B teams ruling the fields in Athens Nov 4-5th.

As the season begins, I am going to start introducing our new rookies! We have a great group and are so happy they joined our family! So, without further ado:

Here to kick off ‘Meet the Rookie’ is first year CHBE from New Jersey: Zion Oh!

While at first glance she may seem quiet and unassuming, on the field she comes alive. Her signature move is ‘randomly moving up and down’ as she dances to Hakuna Matata, and in her free time catch her eating sushi and watching animal videos. At a tournament, you can try her frantically trying to figure out what to do (tbh isn’t this all of us sometimes?) , and watch out for her belly wave… whatever that is exactly.  Welcome to the Team, Zion!!

Beginning of the Semester Updates!

Hello everyone, Zoë here, and I hope you had a fantastic summer full of sun, good times, and hopefully some ultimate! If you signed up for the club at FASET, you will be getting email updates throughout the beginning of the semester for the recruitment process, but you can also email gtwreckultimate@gmail.com if you have any questions.

If you are at all interested in joining the team, please come out to a practice, and remember that there is NO EXPERIENCE needed to join as well! When I joined the team, I had barely touched a frisbee, so we will teach you all you need to know in the coming semester and year.

Last year saw a lot of development for the team as a whole, and as a result we have split into a two team structure, with an A and a B team. More information about tryouts will come out in the coming weeks, but the most important thing now is to come out to the first week of practice and start getting touches in!

Practice for the semester will start on August 29th and the schedule for the first part of the semester (August 20th-October 16th) is:

Wednesdays 6-7:45p on SAC field 1

Thursdays 9:15-11:15p on SAC field 1

(Fridays 6-8p on Couch Park/Burger Bowl)

Practices on Wednesday and Thursday are the official times for the beginning of the semester and the Friday time will be a more casual time for mini and learning new skills!

We have an amazing coaching staff this year, with loads of ultimate experience under their belts! We also have three amazing captains this year who have been with wreck for a long time and dedicate a lot to the team. Another post will be coming out with short bios and contact information for them later this week.

I hope everyone is as excited about this semester of frisbee as I am, and I cannot wait to meet all of the new rookies for this season!!

Welcome to Wreck!

Here’s to another year of our two favorite F words – frisbee and FASET!

I’m Zoë Wangstrom, 3rd year student at Tech and 3rd year player on the funnest ultimate team in the Southeast (arguably in the country too), and I am the newly minted blogger for the team! Feel free to reach out to me with any questions about the team. I started playing frisbee in college and it has been one of my best decisions since coming to Georgia Tech, so I hope it can be for you as well.

As is with most clubs, you probably stumbled upon our table at FASET, saw our impressive trifold and decided “hey these people seem very awesome” (totally true). If that is the case, or you’ve been playing frisbee for a while now, Wreck will be a place for you to grow as a person and as an athlete.

For information to learn about the team and about the sport, you can reach out to the club at gt.womensultimate@gmail.com. If you did not get added to the mailing list at FASET, here is a link to do so.  Information about fall practice times and other events will be sent out via the email list – so keep an eye out on there.

Now, some photos of cute dogs catching discs for your viewing pleasure.

Helluva Hat Tournament

Greetings and salutations!

It’s been a while since I wrote anything here… believe me I’ve been busy. A recent development that’s kept me kinda busy is the hat tournament we hosted on Jan 20th, right here at the Institute!

Over 50 Tech ladies congregated to have fun, burn some energy, and get out in the ~perfect weather~ this weekend. We had enough players to make 6 teams, named after the 6 elements

okay, initially there were 4 teams so there were 4 elements and it made sense, but then we had so many people sign up (what a great problem to have) that I made 2 more teams and so the 5th and 6th elements are metal and ether. I tried lol.

The winner of the tournament, with a perfect record was team Earth, and team Fire won the spirit prize with their energy and friendliness.

What a group <3

Thank you to everyone that came out and played, as well as the Wreckies that helped set it up. Everyone contributed to the success!

Panorama of the games!

Meet the Rookie: Hannah Paterson

Number: 99?
Fave Ulti Moment: “practicing layouts by slip and sliding through the mud”
Useless Talent: Her High DPM (Dabs Per Minute)
Always Watching: Animal Vids
Is Alright At: Boiling Water
Hannah.jpg
Hannah is a silly goose. She’d trade a kidney for the ability to sing or dance, and is passionate about a lot of things, but especially the Biomedical Engineering field where she aims to save the world one medical device at a time. As an outdoors-y type from Massachusetts, she can be found backpacking. As an avid Techie, she can be found snuggling her Buzz pillow pet (lmao). As a Wreckie, she can be found happily chatting on the sidelines and zooming all over the field for the friz-b.

Meet the Rookie: Ally Nastasi

Number: 59
Celebrity Crush: Zac Efron
At Tournaments She’ll Be: Running Around Making Sick Plays, And Occasionally Tripping (But Honestly That’s Most Of Us)
Ally.jpg
Like some Wreckies, Ally came to us from the sport of swimming, which taught her a lot about grit, hard work, and grace, but to my knowledge doesn’t involve flying plastic. Since making the switch, Ally has blown us away with her athleticism and her charming personality. If she were a fruit she’s be a cucumber.

Meet the Rookie: Gleymi Hernandez

aka: Gleyms
Number: 65
Spirit Animal: Heather Song
Always See Her: Learning
Never See Her: Flustered
Major: Neuroscience
GLEYMI
Gleymi is our little mellow pumpkin. From making guacamole, to admitting that a hermit crab would play her in the movie of her life, Gleymi is super chill and cool. Her infinite wisdom is exemplified in this quote she told me: “Small goods make big change”
